Alpine Mountain Bike Adventure in Austria

A super mountain bike challenge in the Austrian Tirol. Suitable for those who have a reasonable level of fitness. Routes are on good forest tracks and not too technical. No “rock hopping”. With a local SportActive guide we discover the wonderful mountain passes and spectacular views.
All makes for a great atmosphere and a tremendous week of mountain biking.

Our local SportActive guide, Georg, will take you through the maze of forest tracks and mountain passes where you will be able to take in the fantastic scenery.

St. Johann in Tirol, the Wilder Kaiser – Kalkstein – Kitzbüheler Horn region is easily one of the most beautiful and inviting resorts in the Tyrol due to its wide and sunny valley. Over 400 km of touring and mountain bike trails entice you to athletic activity.
The "Kitzbüheler Alpen" are known for its excellent network of cycling trails, blessed with the natural landscape of every biker's dream. The region offers an inexhaustible number of options for two-weheel adventure.

The right type of route exists for every biker. Easy to intermediate level trails are designed to make every cyclist's heart skip a beat. Enjoy cycling far away from the hubbub of daily traffic, over partially flat and partially docked trails. You can explore an entire region during the day, then dream about the experience once again at night.

The hotel is centrally located in the centre of the Tyrolean village St Johann.
This allows great access to the cafes and bars where you can relax and wind down after a day in the mountains. In the evening you can soak in the Tyrolean atmosphere as the local hoteliers organize entertainments in the main village square.

Accommodation

We shall stay in the Hotel Fischer, located in Sankt Johann in Tirol, less than 1 hour bus drive from Salzburg, our arriving airport.
Hotel Fischer is a family run *** star Hotel, located in the pedestrian area in the middle of the village. It is decorated in the very traditional and warm Austrian style: wood all over the place - balconies, restaurant, Stüberl.

You shall find the following services:

Group rides:

The number of places on this tour is 20 maximum with two different ability groups.
The Following are examples of rides ;

all times and distances may vary, according to weather conditions and the fitness level of the group;

1. Kitzbühler Horn, Lämmerbichlalm

From St. Johann in Tirol to Fieberbrunn (11 km half on gravel half on asphalt road), from there uphill on gravel road into a vally called Pletzergraben to the famous Lämmerbichlalm
(1648 m high and about 2 hours to ride). Over the Brunnhoferalm down to Kitzbühel and from Kitzbühel on a nice trail to Oberndorf. From the village of Oberndorf on a beautifull gravel roda about 760 altitude difference to the Stanglalm (open for good food and drinks). From the Stanglalm back down to St. Johann.
Time on the bike: 5-6 hours
Altitude difference: 2050 m

2. Kirchberg, Aschau

From St. Johann in Tirol to Kitzbühel over the Bichlach. Most of the time gravel road with short parts of asphalt and a wonderfull area. Afterwards to Kirchberg (18 km). From Kirchberg to Aschau- Hieslegg – (perfect view to the Wilder Kaiser) back to Kirchberg. 30.0 km 02:45 hours 675m altitude difference. Over Reith b. Kitzbühel back to St. Johann.

3. Erpfendorf, Straubinghaus

From St. Johann to Erpfendorf (10 km) on a graval track along the Kitzbühler Ache. From Erpfendorf on a graval road to the Straubinger house (Eggenalm), which is at 1558 m. Erpfendorf Straubingalm are about 10,5 km and 1000 m altitude difference. From the Straubingerhouse on a wonderfull track we cross the boarder to Germany to the Hindenbürghütte (1206 m) afterwards a great and long downhill to Reith im Winkel (690 m). From Reith im Wikel back over the boarder to Austria to Kössen and beside the world cup track back on graval roades to St. Johann.

Altitude difference: 1500 m

4. Wilder Kaiser and lower Kaiser

From St. Johann over the Huberhöhe to Griesenau on asphalt road (8 km). From there into the famous Kaiserbachtal on steep graval road and through the forest up to the Maukalm(altitude 1286 m) Downhill back to the Kramerhof (altitude 800m) and afterwards back up to the Metzgeralm – Kaiserniederalm (altitude 1377 m) From here we have to carry the bike about 15 min, afterwards on a trail down back to St. Johann.

Altitude difference: 1400 m

5. Kalkstein

From St. Johann in Tirol to Kirchdorf (5 km) afterwards steep uphill to the mountainhuts up the Kalkstein and to the Adlerspoint (Eagelpoint) at 1418m. Afterwards down through the Mühlbachgraben on narrow tracks (some meters it is not possible to be on the bike) extremly beautifull along a little stream. Afterwards on trail over Scheffau, Glugs and the restaurant Stockerhof back to St. Johann.

Altitude difference: 1300 m

6. Hahnenkamm, Kitzbühel

From St. Johann 10 km up and down to Kitzbühel. From Kitzbühel (750 m) on a nice quite steep track up to the Hahnenkamm (1712 m)
From The Hahnenkamm on a great panoramatrack to the Steinbergkogel (2000 m), afterwards a bit downhill to the Pengelstein (1938 m). From the Pengelstein a long ride down to Kirchberg. From Kirchberg along the Aschauer river over the hilly Bichlach back to St. Johann.
Time on the bike: 6-7 hours
Altitude difference: 1800 m
