walkaustria5.jpgSportActive - Walking - Austria - You will love it

Austria is a magical country and a paradise for walkers. You will relish the wonderful hospitality, the excellent cuisine, the traditional hotels, and the magnificent walking. From snow capped mountains to river walks, to lakeside strolls and meadows of wild flowers -Austria has the stuff of fairytales.

We will stay in the Hotel Park, located in Sankt Johann in Tirol, typical Austrian village in the middle of the Austrian mountains, less than 2 hours bus drive from Munich, our arriving airport. (direct flight from Belfast to Munich)

Hotel Park**** is run by the Grander family, located 4 minutes walk from the village centre. It is decorated in the very traditional and warm Austrian style: wood and flowers all over the place - balconies, restaurant, Stüberl, furniture. You will enjoy your coffee break after the walks, sitting in the house garden, absorbing the energy of the surrounding trees and nature.

The waiters and waitresses are dressed in the traditional Austrian outfit, the "Trachten", and they all have this very friendly and careful manner treating their guests. It seems you are back to the middle of last century. A complete change of scene!

Walking programme

Geor Weihs - Local Guide for SportActiveGeorg, the local SportActive guide, was born in St Johann and has explored the walking path, mountain bike trails and ski slopes of the tyrolean mountains for all his life. He will be able to explain all the local habits and customs of the little mountain villages and inhabitants, name all the mountains and tell stories about them. He speaks perfect English and the Ladies in our groups simply Love him (ask previous guests).

These are examples of the walks. All walks and times are subject to change as we adapt to weather conditions and the groups. See the pictures of our previous walks in the photo album.

Walk example no.1 : Eifersbacher Waterfall - Kröpflalm - Angereralm - Hochfeld

A short walk through St Johann brings us, over a shady path to the 30 m high Eifersbacher Waterfall. We proceed to the Jodleralm (1400 m), the highest point of the tour. We shall have a spectatular view to the "Wilder Kaiser" Kitzbühler Horn, and the other surrounding montains. On the way back we pass a big mountain lake ; after a brake at the mountain restaurant Hochfeld we may use the summer toboggan run (1 km long) t get down to St Johann. Level of difficulty : medium ; walking time about 4 hours

Walk example no. 2 : "Simply Beautiful"

After a short taxi ride we take a cable car ride to the ski station of Lärchfilzkogel. From here we ascent to the peak of the mountain where we have breathtaking views of the valley around. Our walking time is around 5 to 6 hours with stops; the level of difficulty is moderate.

Walk example no. 3 : Obingalm 1140 m- Angerlalm - Grießbach gorge (Griessbachklamm) - Erpfendorf

we hike through the forest to the Obingalm (1140 m), and through the Game Enclosure to Angerlalm (1146 m), an extremely cosy mountain hut. After a break we hike downhill through Grießbach Gorge to Erpfendorf. In the gorge we hike along a stream with ice cold clear water, waterfalls....... extremely beautiful.

Walk example no. 4 : "Walking on Eagle's wings"

That is exactly what it will feel like. The route of this new footpath - the "Eagle path" (der Adlerweg) takes across Tyrol - 280 km and 31 stages. The first original stage starts here in St. Johann and takes us to the Schleierwasserfall (the veil water fall), up to the Diebsöfen and the Obere Regalm "upper Alpine pasture" with view on the mountain Maukspitze, passing along the Bergsteigergrab (the mountaineer's grave) up to the Gaudeamushütte "alpine hut". The walking time is around 5-6 hours; the level of difficulty is moderate+

Walk example no. 5 : Prostkogel through the Devils Lane

From the hotel by taxibus to Gasteig, the Feuerkapelle. Further on to the mysterious Devils Lane. I will tell you exiting stories and legends about the Devils Lane. Afterwards short walk up to the Prostkogel (1244 m) from where we will have a nice view down to St. Johann. After a break at Prostalm we walk down to the Kitzbühler Ache and along the river back to the hotel.

Walk example no. 6 : Ellmau up to Wochenbrunneralm (1085 m)

A wonderful hike in the area of the Wilder Kaiser on Tirols new long distance hiking trail, the Adlerweg. From Wochenbrunneralm we walk 1 hour uphill to Gaudeamushütte (1263 m).
Path n°822 direction Schleierwasserfall, down to Römerhof
During the whole walk we shall have a wonderfull view to the peaks of the Wilder Kaiser and also into the Zillertaler Alps, the snowcouvert Großvenediger (3666 m) , and to the highest mountain of Austria, the Großglockner (3798 m). This is one of the most spectacular tours in the area.

"It is time to say goodbye..."

We begin the walk at 1700 meters above sea level, after a ride with the cable car and ascend to the peak of the Kitzbühler Horn at 2000 meters.
